Colour Run

I did a colour run with a friend last summer and it seemed like something the kids would really enjoy. I have strongly encouraged Connor to join me in a few 5k's this spring and summer and he's starting to accumulate a good collection of race bibs. The fact that he'd get another one and he'd get to be covered in colours sounded pretty good to him. Maira and Hudson also thought it sounded fun so I signed all four of us up. When the race began, Connor was disgusted that I was walking to keep at Maira and Hudson's pace so he asked to run ahead and meet us at the finish line.

Camping at Kikomun BC

After John and Gennie's wedding, a few people headed home for work but the rest of us went camping for a few days in southern BC. Jess and Shae went back to Edmonton but I took our trailer and the younger three to join the camping trip.

It was supposed to be a six hour drive home from Kikomun to Edmonton. But as I was driving on the ring road east of Calgary, we heard a strange scraping sound from the trailer. I pulled over immediately and was horrified to see that one side of the hitch had come unattached from the trailer. It took three stressful hours to figure out what to do and have it towed. It's now at a welder's shop in a small town outside of Calgary having its frame completely rebuilt. Not exactly a happy ending to our trip but if the hitch had come completely detached, the consequences could have been horrific so I guess we're lucky it wasn't worse than it was.

John and Gennie's Wedding

Jess's younger brother John got married to Genevieve Kyle in July. We don't know Gennie very well yet but they're planning on living in Edmonton while John finishes law school so we're looking forward to lots of time together. Plus I already know Gennie's family from Ottawa - I was friends with her older sister Heather when we were teenagers.

John and Gennie are both younger siblings from large families so they have a lot of nieces and nephews. Here they are with 38 (!!!) of them.

Anyway, back to the wedding:

Heather gathered all the nieces and nephews and had them sing "Kiss the Girl" from Little Mermaid to John and Gennie:

A Day at the Zoo

Jayna and Travis stayed with us for a couple of days for Spencer's bar call and so they could spend time with us at the zoo. Brinsley and James adore my kids (Brinsley still hopes to marry Connor when they grow up) and the feeling is mutual.
