Maira's Figure Skating Achievement Day 2016
Maira put in another year of hard work at figure skating this year and she got to perform for friends and family today at her club's Achievement Day. She did a group number with her Learn to Figure Skate class and then she did a solo performance. Here are the videos of her performances followed by a few photos:

Maira's first figure skating competition
Maira was invited to participate in a Skate Canada competition in Stettler in January called FunSkate. It's not actually a competition, more like a chance to present your skills in front of judges in a competition-like setting and get feedback. It's a good introduction to what it's like to be in a competition so you know what it's like. A practice competition, I guess.
Anyway, the morning after her birthday party, we got up bright and early and drove to Stettler. She was going to participate in two events, an individual skills event and a group skills event. She was extremely nervous. Here is a picture of her in the dressing room right before it was time to go on the ice for her first event, feeling pretty scared:

She went out and performed her three skills for the judge (a quick stop, a jump and skating backwards) and achieved gold level marks for all them so she received a gold medal.
Later, in the group event, she and some friends from her skating club each performed some skills for the panel of judges and again, they achieved gold level marks so she received another gold medal.
She had a great experience that day and felt really good that she was able to do something hard and scary and find out it wasn't really scary after all.

Maira's Figure Skating Performance
Maira started figure skating lessons in January and she got to perform a couple of numbers in the end of year recital. She absolutely adores figure skating and I suspect this may be her first performance of many.
She performed a one-minute solo followed by a group number with the other three girls in her level.
