Spencer's Birthday at the Leg

We have been having a very hot summer in Edmonton and until a few days ago, very few mosquitoes so it has been wonderful to go outside and enjoy our green, lush, and admittedly brief summer. Spencer turned 29 near the end of July so we invited him and Hannah to join us at the Leg for a picnic supper and some splashing in the fountains.

Were Shae, Hannah and I even there, you might be wondering. Well yes, we just preferred to stay dry. And no, we weren't on our phones the whole time. Just part of the time.

I'm pretty sure Spencer is contemplating the deliciousness of his birthday cake here. He's having some deep chocolate thoughts.

Yes, I was walking while knitting. I don't actually remember doing this so I don't know why I felt the need to knit while I walked.

Just before it was time to go, Spencer and Hannah played some kind of ninja game in the shallow pool, which I have yet to learn the rules to but it looks pretty fun.

Camping at Pembina River

We went camping for five days beside a lovely river an hour west of Edmonton. This was an extra special camping trip because we were joined by Grammy and Grandpa, Spencer and Hannah, and Jayna and Travis and their kids.

Naturally, there were many watermelons eaten by all. Hudson even got a watermelon "bowl" all to himself.

We pulled out our 1960s MIA campfire songbooks and tried singing a few songs around the campfire.

The next day was sunny and warm so we went tubing down the river. The river was a lovely refreshing temperature. It was also sluggish and too shallow in some places. It took us about three or four hours to drift down the river back to the campground.

The next day, some of us tubed down the river again and we also spent time hanging out at the campground beach.

There were a few rainstorms we had to weather  (in fact, we ended our camping trip one day early because the last day was too rainy) but it was nice to have a kitchen tent where we could stay dry and spend time together playing awesome games like Pit (two, two, two, two, two!).
